2018 – it’s been really exciting!

2018 is coming to an end, so we’re looking back at an exciting and successful sixth hotelkit year! Since our launch in 2012, quite a lot of things have changed, so we’d like to share our best moments and achievements of 2018 with you.

The hotelkit team

At the beginning of the year, our team consisted of 22 members, meanwhile that number has risen to 40. Almost all departments have grown, but in particular our sales team, which now accounts for around 50% of the team. We’ve not only become bigger, but also more international. Along with our team growth, the number of nationalities in the office has also grown. By the end of the year, we count in total 11 nationalities: Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Colombia, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Spain und USA. With a team that is constantly growing, we realized soon that there is a lack of space, so by mid 2018 we decided to move: At the beginning of 2019, we’ll replace our current 170 sqm headquarters office by a brand new office with 450 sqm. Also, our software developer team based in Dresden has moved recently: They’ve changed from 82 sqm to 149 sqm. And of course, as our team is growing, team building has become even more important: As we keep our traditions, the obligatory yearly visit to the Oktoberfest could not be missed. Nevertheless, our highlight was definitely our three-day team event at Area 47 in Tyrol.

Our clients

2018 has been more successful than any other previous year: At the beginning of the year, our client base was still at 500 hotels. By now, 800 hotels of all categories, sizes and types worldwide and 40,000 employees work with hotelkit. More and more hotels have started to realize that transparent, internal communication significantly facilitates daily work processes in hotels. Meanwhile, we count some of the most renowned hotel chains and groups, such as Le Méridien, Moxy Hotels, Steigenberger, Hampton by Hilton, InterContinental, Radisson, Holiday Inn, 25hours Hotels, Living Hotels Derag and Adina Apartment Hotels, as well as privately-run hotels such as Hotel Sacher Salzburg & Vienna, Bachmair Weissach, Estrel, Stanglwirt, The Mandala and SIDE to our clients. Also, since 2018 we count several managing companies to our clients, for example Belvar, RIMC or Tristar. Moreover, as our clients come from about 25 different countries, hotelkit is already available in 12 languages.

But what most of you might not know yet, we’re not only providing a software that solves many challenges for the hotel industry: Our communications software particularly for the healthcare sector, medikit, has grown enormously too. Meanwhile, more than 50 medical practices, hospitals and healthcare organisations already work successfully with medikit. More details are to be followed in 2019.

Events

It seems like we didn’t miss any event in 2018: In total, our team participated in 72 events in 12 countries worldwide. Among the highlights are certainly the ITB in Berlin, the FITUR in Madrid, the Hotel Technology Forum in Vienna, Zurich and St. Etienne, the WTM in London and the Worldwide Hospitality Awards in Paris. Furthermore, we participated in numerous barcamps: the Hospitality Industry Club evening camps in various European cities and several HSMA events in Germany. Also, the hotelcamp ALPS – organized by ourselves – took place for the fourth time this year with around 70 participants. However, our sales team was not only present at many events this year: on average, every sales manager spent nearly 100 days on business trips!

Awards

We also convinced various juries of hotelkit: In the first half of the year, we won the Startup Battles of the Hotel Technology Forum in Zurich, Vienna, and in November also the Battle in St. Etienne in France. But more importantly, we could convince France for a second time, as we received the award for the Best Digital Innovation 2018 in Paris at the Worldwide Hospitality Awards, despite the fierce international competition.

Technological development

As in previous years, our team was busy developing and further advancing hotelkit. Our software is constantly improved by taking into consideration feedback of clients, thus, all tools are adapted to the actual needs of hoteliers and hotel staff. With a total of 214,762 new lines of code in 2018 alone, a lot of things have been accomplished. We’re not revealing too much yet, but in the first half of 2019 a brand new tool will be launched.

The statistics of the hotelkit usage in 2018 speak for themselves: For example, a total of 57,696 handbook articles, 452,570 repair orders, and 132,986 guest requests were recorded in hotelkit in 2018. Moreover, interfaces were further developed and by now, we offer 10 different interfaces to other software providers, and further 15 are already in the making.

2019 – we’re very excited!

We’re not going to tell too much yet, but next year a lot of exciting changes are going on with regard to the further digitalization of internal hotel processes.
